Celebrating Bahamian Tradition: The 2025 New Providence Junior Junkanoo Parade

The 2025 New Providence Junior Junkanoo Parade is set to take place on January 30 on Bay Street, with the festivities beginning at 6 PM. The annual parade will bring together young performers from preschool to senior high school who will showcase the sounds of cowbells, goat-skin drums, and brass-infused music as they celebrate their Bahamian culture. These talented students will also proudly display the elaborate costumes they’ve spent countless hours creating, often with the guidance and mentorship of seasoned Junkanooers. The Junior Junkanoo Parade provides a platform for nurturing cultural appreciation and artistic expression, ensuring that the traditions of Junkanoo are passed down to the next generation.
Tickets for the event are now available for purchase at the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture, located in the Dame Ivy Dumont Building. Sales will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM on Wednesday, January 29, and from 10 AM to 12 PM on Thursday, January 30. General admission tickets are priced at $5, while tickets for Rawson Square are available for $10.
The excitement of the 2025 Junior Junkanoo Parade will unfold with an impressive lineup of participants. The parade will feature performances from a variety of schools, categorized by age group. The preschool section includes participants from Coconut Grove Preschool, Tiny Tot Preschool, Two By Two, One on One, Refresher For Kids, The Big Apple, and Just Kids. Primary schools such as T.G. Glover, Judith P. Thompson, Yellow Elder, Sybil Strachan, Carlton Francis, Ridgeland Primary, Woodcock Primary, and Eva Hilton will also be represented, adding to the diversity and energy of the parade.
Community schools like Flourish Youth, Nemesis Temple No. 75, and Discovery Learning Centre will contribute their unique talents as well. The junior high category will see performances from schools including T.A. Thompson, H.O. Nash (Fun Group), A.F. Adderley, and C.H. Reeves. The “All Aged Schools” segment will include St. John’s College, Prince William, and Lyford Cay International School, showcasing a mix of both younger and older students. The senior high category will feature performances from Government High, C.V. Bethel, R.M. Bailey, C.I. Gibson, C.R. Walker, and Anatol Rogers, rounding out a spectacular showcase of Bahamian talent and pride.
