Embracing a Bahamian Staycation in the Heart of Nassau

Bahamians travel! And we have paradise right under our feet to explore. In our first teaser for our new "We Reach" travel series, we decided to keep things a bit closer to home with a domestic travel feature to show how you can have a vacation right in your own backyard.

It doesn't matter if you're travelling from another Bahamian island or looking for a staycation. Everyone deserves a break, and you don't have to travel far to enjoy one.

In this episode, the British Colonial Hotel invited us to check out their new Bahamian resident staycation package.

Located in the heart of downtown Nassau, the British Colonial is a convenient location for visitors because of its close proximity to attractions, as well as its on-property amenities, including direct access to Junkanoo Beach, two pools, several restaurants, a coffee shop and more.

From here, you can lie by the pool or beach and grab a cocktail or a meal, or go exploring and "play tourist" by visiting attractions that many Bahamians haven't seen in years or taken the time to check out before.

While the 100+ year-old British Colonial Hotel has a rich history that saw Nassau evolve from horse-drawn carriage streets to what it is today, the hotel has kept its historical charm while undergoing a complete internal renovation to modernize its amenities just a few years ago.

In addition to its revamped room designs and property upgrades, the hotel has also elevated its culinary offerings. Under the leadership of Executive Chef Antonio Williams, the hotel's culinary team has merged Bahamian flavours and traditions with international cuisine to create menus that are uniquely their own, and they take pride in the fact that everything is made fresh in-house. For a true taste of the hotel's new culinary offerings, you can try their limited-time, four-course tasting menu at the Woodes Rogers Tavern. Each course has multiple options to choose from, ranging from jumbo firecracker shrimp and a very berry salad to a rich and creamy lobster mac skillet and sky juice cheesecake.

The Bahamian staycation package has rates starting at $179 a night through September 30 and includes a $25 dining credit, welcome cocktails and late checkout until 2 p.m. Direct bookings also receive a $100 to $250 shopping credit at Diamonds International.

A Taste of Woodes Rogers also runs through September 30 and includes a four-course meal for $85, plus VAT and gratuity.
