On March 13, the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) officially opened its much-anticipated exhibition, NELEVEN: Into the Void. This marks the eleventh National Exhibition, and it brings together 21 extraordinary Bahamian artists whose works explore the concept of the Void—a space that is both nothing and everything, everywhere and nowhere.

The Void is not just an abstract idea, but a space of infinite potential, ripe for creation and transformation. It is this liminal space that connects everything in the universe. Similarly, the Void serves as a powerful metaphor for Caribbean identity: a state of constant reinvention and self-definition, where the boundaries of culture, history, and self are continually negotiated. The Void, then, represents the fertile ground where new ideas, new expressions, and new ways of being can emerge.

This year’s exhibition showcases a diverse group of 21 artists who bring their unique perspectives and creative visions to the concept of the Void. Their works, which span a range of media from painting and sculpture to mixed media and installations, invite visitors to contemplate the space between, the unexplored, and the potential for transformation.

The artists featured in NELEVEN: Into the Void include:

  • Douglas Barkey

  • Delton Barrett

  • Jonnique Beadle

  • Jenna Chaplin

  • Jeremy Delancy

  • Sonia Farmer

  • Nelson Gray

  • Marina Gottlieb Sarles

  • Amaani Hepburn

  • Kenneth Heslop

  • Allan Jones

  • Jordanna Kelly

  • Regan Kemp

  • KENECHI

  • Ryan Lewis

  • Jo Morasco

  • Edrin Symonette

  • Laurie Tuchel

  • Eleanor Whitely

  • Averia Wright

  • Lemero Wright

Each artist brings a distinct interpretation of the Void, exploring themes such as personal identity, culture, history, and the spaces between these concepts. This exhibition is an opportunity to experience the breadth of contemporary Bahamian art and the vibrant ways in which these artists engage with the idea of the unknown and the infinite.

The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas is open from Tuesday to Sunday, and admission is free for Bahamians on Sundays.
