Nassau’s streets are about to become a canvas for Bahamian creativity, thanks to the exciting Downtown Nassau Mural Project. The initiative invites local artists to transform several locations in Downtown New Providence into vibrant works of art, contributing to the city’s cultural landscape. Though the final pieces are yet to be unveiled, one mural that is already catching the public’s eye is the nearly completed work by Randia Coakley.

Coakley’s mural is a burst of color, celebrating the joy and nostalgia of Bahamian childhood. The artwork features lively elements such as swing sets and cowbells, evoking memories of carefree days spent playing in the sun. The use of vibrant hues and playful symbols brings a sense of movement and energy to the space, reflecting the joy and vitality of youth. As Coakley works toward the final touches, she has shared that she will be incorporating personal elements of her childhood hometown—Bain Town—into the piece. This connection to her roots adds depth and meaning to the mural, making it a true celebration of both the artist’s personal history and the broader Bahamian experience.

While Coakley’s mural is nearing completion, the work of other talented Bahamian artists is also taking shape. Angelika Wallace-Whitfield, Rasheed Demeritte, Jerreth Albury, and Durelle Williams are all contributing their own unique artistic visions to the Downtown Nassau Mural Project. Each of these artists has been tasked with creating a mural that captures a different facet of Bahamian life and culture, adding a rich diversity of styles and stories to the downtown area.

As the project progresses, we’ll be popping in to check on the progress of each artist’s work, bringing you regular updates on the exciting transformation taking place in Nassau.
