A FULL-CIRCLE MOMENT: Former U.S. Ambassador Nicole Avant to Be Honoured at Bahamas International Film Festival 2026

Seventeen years after first attending the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) as U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas, award-winning producer, bestselling author and philanthropist Nicole Avant is returning to the islands for a special homecoming.
Avant, whose producing credits include Netflix's The Black Godfather and Tyler Perry's The Six Triple Eight, has been named the 2026 Visionary Producer Award honouree and will also receive the title of Honorary Patron of BIFF.
The recognition will take place during the Festival's Opening Night Gala at Baha Mar on December 10.
Appointed by President Barack Obama, Avant served as U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas from 2009 to 2011, becoming the first African American woman and youngest person to hold the position. During her tenure, she championed education, women's empowerment, economic development and several other initiatives, building lasting connections with the Bahamian community.
"To return as this year's honoree, and to celebrate producers and the power of storytelling, truly feels like a beautiful homecoming," Avant shared.
This year's Festival will also shine a spotlight on the creative minds behind the camera, with a special Producers Lab offering Bahamian and international filmmakers opportunities to explore producing, pitching and project development.
BIFF 2026 takes place December 7–14, beginning in Harbour Island from December 7–9 before moving to Nassau from December 10–14.
Founded by Leslie Vanderpool, the Festival continues to celebrate international cinema while creating opportunities for Bahamian filmmakers and storytellers to connect with the global film industry.
