CARIBBEAN THREADS | Meet Bahamian Artist Steven Schmid
Updated: 20 hours ago
From hip-hop beats and musical sampling to recycled materials and textured canvases, Bahamian artist Steven Schmid is bringing together different creative disciplines to tell stories through art.
Based in Toronto, Canada, Schmid showcased his work at the FUZE Caribbean Art Fair during the Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival, sharing how his love for hip-hop influences his approach to abstract figurative art.
Much like sampling in music, his creative process brings together different elements, including digital and traditional painting, drawing, sculpture and handmade paper created from recycled materials such as cardboard, pencil shavings and plastic.
Schmid also shared that his next stop would be Art Toronto, where he planned to exhibit another collection of abstract figurative works.
Through our Caribbean Threads series, we're continuing to spotlight the artists and chefs who brought their creativity, culture and unique perspectives to this year's FUZE Caribbean Art Fair and Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival.
