International Women’s Day, observed on March 8 each year, is a global celebration that honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day also highlights the ongoing struggle for gender equality and women's rights worldwide. In 2025, the theme for International Women's Day is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This powerful message calls for a collective effort to break barriers and create equal opportunities for all women, ensuring a future where no one is left behind.

Throughout the Bahamas, March will be filled with empowering events that celebrate women and promote their rights. These events not only commemorate International Women's Day but also offer a platform for women to unite, share experiences, and foster positive change.

One of the key events in Grand Bahama is the International Women’s Day Annual Luncheon, which will take place at The Stoned Crab on Taino Beach on March 8th at 12:00 pm. This luncheon promises to be an unforgettable gathering of empowerment and inspiration. Attendees will hear from the esteemed Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, spouse of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, who will be the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker. The event also supports local organizations that uplift women and girls in the community. Tickets are available at Kelly’s Freeport.

In New Providence, BAF Financial & Insurance (Bahamas) Ltd. will host the International Women’s Day Brunch on March 7th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Margaritaville Resort. Under the theme "Accelerate Action," this brunch will feature a panel of distinguished women who will share their insights on accelerating change and empowering women in various sectors. The panel includes notable figures such as Shanta E. Knowles, Dr. Kitti Bonni Adderley, and Xavia Rolle-Higgs, among others. Proceeds from ticket sales, priced at $75, will benefit the Willie-Mae Pratt Center for Girls, further emphasizing the event’s commitment to improving the lives of women and girls in the Bahamas.

Equality Bahamas will also mark International Women’s Day with its Annual March & Expo on March 8th, starting at 8:45 am at the Eastern Esplanade. This march advocates for equal rights for women and girls, with participants marching to The Dundas on Mackey Street. The Expo that follows will feature a variety of interactive activities, including Zumba, self-defense training with Sensei Melanie, a poetry workshop, theater activities, massage therapy, and wellness sessions like yoga and breathwork. This event, which is family-friendly and open to the public, offers a space to celebrate gender justice while sharing resources, learning, and connecting with other like-minded individuals.

Further empowering women in the business world, the Fox Foundation will host the Accelerate Action Business & Grant Growth Summit at Atlantis Resort on March 13th. This summit is designed for ambitious women looking to grow their businesses and unlock new opportunities. Participants will have the chance to engage with industry leaders, hear from inspiring speakers, and learn about the Women Entrepreneurship Initiative, which supports Bahamian women entrepreneurs in areas like e-commerce, sustainability, and healthcare. The summit will also feature a panel discussion and the celebration of the winners of the Women Entrepreneur Initiative Grant, with $75,000 in total funding being awarded to deserving women entrepreneurs.

March in the Bahamas offers a range of opportunities for women to gather, learn, and push for change, from community-driven events to entrepreneurial summits. Whether through networking, attending workshops, or participating in marches, these events create spaces for women to be celebrated, empowered, and uplifted. As we come together on International Women’s Day and throughout the month of March, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the progress made while continuing to advocate for the rights, equality, and empowerment of women everywhere.
