As part of our ongoing series to help you get fitter and stronger this January, we’re introducing you to a workout that may be new to some —TRX training. Hosted by instructor Marcos at the Club One Fitness Center in Sandyport, New Providence, TRX classes take place every Tuesday and Thursday and offer a full-body workout that targets everything from your arms and legs to your core. It’s a dynamic, effective way to challenge your body, and while it might seem intimidating at first, it’s actually accessible to anyone looking to get stronger and improve their fitness.

The TRX System, or Total Resistance Exercises, is a form of suspension training that uses specialized straps to perform bodyweight exercises. Developed by former U.S. Navy SEAL Randy Hetrick, TRX training allows you to engage multiple muscle groups at once by leveraging your own body weight as resistance. Unlike traditional gym equipment, which isolates specific muscles, TRX forces you to stabilize and balance your body throughout each movement, making it an excellent way to develop strength, flexibility, and core stability at the same time.

At the Club One Fitness Center, Marcos leads participants through a series of movements that are simple yet highly effective. These exercises target your arms, legs, and core, helping to improve muscle tone and build functional strength. The suspension straps, which may look a bit intimidating when you first see them, actually provide stability and support during each exercise, allowing you to perform movements that might otherwise be difficult or risky. The challenge, however, comes from controlling your body as it hangs or moves through different positions, which engages not only the target muscles but also your core, enhancing balance and stability.

Though it may seem like an advanced workout, TRX is adaptable to different fitness levels. The beauty of the system lies in its ability to provide an effective workout regardless of whether you’re a beginner or an experienced athlete. Over time, as your body becomes more accustomed to the movements, you’ll be able to increase the intensity and difficulty, building strength and endurance at your own pace.

A typical TRX class combines exercises such as squats, lunges, planks, and various presses—all of which help to strengthen the arms, legs, and abs. The suspension system is designed to engage your core with nearly every movement, as you have to stabilize your body and maintain balance while performing the exercises. This makes TRX a great choice for anyone looking to improve their posture, coordination, and flexibility, in addition to building strength. The class is designed to be fast-paced, with each exercise flowing into the next, ensuring that you’re getting an efficient and comprehensive workout that leaves you feeling both challenged and accomplished.

So, if you’re looking to try something new this January and step outside of your usual fitness routine, consider giving TRX a try.
