Akeem: The Professional

Poinciana Magazine: What was your childhood dream? (You can interpret this however you wish)

Akeem: I've always wanted to be some kind of artist, whether it was drawing, painting, or sculpting. I was always doing something like that."

Poinciana Magazine: What inspired you to enter your current career field, how did you get here and what do you love most about it?

Akeem: I got inspired out of frustration. I started my fitness journey not long after I graduated high school, and in the process, there was so much information coming from everywhere that it left me more confused about what to really do. So, I decided to get certified in nutrition to understand everything. The more I got involved in fitness and the industry, things just happened on their own. I found myself in spaces and meeting people with the same interests and goals. One thing led to another, and here I am. The thing I love about what I do is that I’m respected and trusted as an expert and authority by other professionals in different fields.

Poinciana Magazine: Tell me about an unexpected professional challenge that you have faced and how you overcame it?

Akeem: An unexpected challenge that I had to face was the transition from being a trainer to a business owner because they’re totally different worlds to navigate, even if I’m still essentially doing the same thing. Luckily, overcoming it was challenging, but with the help of investors and mentors guiding me through roadblocks they’ve already experienced, things became a lot easier.

Poinciana Magazine: What professional advice would you give your younger self?

Akeem: If I were to give some advice, I would tell my younger self not to doubt myself and to know my worth as a fitness professional.

Akeem: The Person

Poinciana Magazine: What do you currently find most enjoyable? (You can interpret this however you wish)

Akeem: Between getting to play a good RPG video game or watching an anime with a good storyline, anything I can do while sitting down for a good while and not move around (he says with a laugh)

Poinciana Magazine: What personal advice would you give your younger self?

Akeem: You don’t need to fit in; being yourself will open the door for your friends and tribe to find you.
