Against the picturesque backdrop of Taino Beach, the International Women’s Day Annual Luncheon at The Stoned Crab Restaurant was a celebration of women’s strength, resilience, and achievements. Held on March 8th, the event brought together leaders, advocates, and community supporters in a collective effort to champion women’s rights and empowerment.
“It was an absolute honor to be surrounded by so many beautiful, powerful women at this year’s International Women’s Day Luncheon as we embraced the theme, Accelerate Action,” said Lynne Fraino, the event organizer. “The energy in the room was inspiring, and I am deeply grateful to Ann Marie Davis, Sarah St. George, and Michelle McGregor, as well as The Stoned Crab, Lyndah Wells, H.E, Jamaal Rolle, and all those who played a role in making this event truly spectacular.”
The highlight of the afternoon was the keynote address by Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, spouse of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, who was the Guest of Honor. Mrs. Davis and other guest speakers, including Michelle McGregor, Director of Operations at The Bahamas Destinations Carnival Corporation, and Sarah St. George, Acting Chairman of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, highlighted the importance of uplifting women and girls and ensuring that they have the resources, opportunities, and support needed to thrive. They also emphasized that women’s empowerment is not just a women’s issue but a societal imperative, urging attendees to continue advocating for equality in every sphere of life. Their messages reinforced the idea that when women are supported, families, communities, and nations flourish.
Beyond the inspiring speeches, the luncheon had a strong philanthropic focus, raising awareness and support for charities that make a tangible impact in the lives of women and children.
“I am thrilled to share that 100% of the proceeds – plus additional funds – will be donated to the Grand Bahama Children’s Home, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s 20 Pearls Program, and Sea Her Swim. Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we keep changing the world.”
This year’s beneficiaries included Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s 20 Pearls Program, which continues its long-standing tradition of mentorship, service, and empowerment; the Grand Bahama Children’s Home, which provides a safe haven for children in need; and Sea Her Swim, an initiative dedicated to teaching women and girls life-saving swimming and ocean safety skills. The generosity of the luncheon’s attendees ensures that these organizations can continue their vital work, fostering stronger, more inclusive communities.
The event also featured engaging artistic expressions, including spoken word performances by Lisa Turnquest and Caline Newton, as well as live paintings by Jamaal Rolle (‘The Celebrity Artist’) and Nikita Turnquest. Their words and art wove together narratives of resilience, identity, and the power of women’s voices, creating an inspiring and thought-provoking experience for attendees.
“I would also like to say a special thank you to the companies and organizations that purchased tickets for their female employees and members, recognizing the importance of investing in women,” Fraino added.
Across The Bahamas, International Women’s Day remains a powerful reminder that when women rise, communities rise with them.
